April Show and Tell

There was no theme this month, so members just shared projects they have been working on.

 

Mary made a reversible table runner, one side represents MSU and the other side Ohio State.

 

 

 

 

 

Karen painted a wooden Barn Quilt Block.

 

 

 

 

Linda paint this iris watercolor.

 

 

 

She is using it for an inspiration for an art quilt.   Below is the quilt in progress.

 

 

 

Below is a photo of the Simmons Art Deco apartment building in Bay City.

 

 

Ann completed a counted cross-stitch project using a pattern made from the photo.

After show and tell, Mary demonstrated how to make 3D flowers by melting polyester.  Below are her samples pins. Many of the group members started flower pins after the meeting, hopefully there will be photos of their completed flowers in May.

 

 

 

March Show & Tell

Our theme for March was "Color". 

The photos are shown in the order presented. 

Some represent the theme and others were projects members shared with the group.

Sue made this bright quilt top.

 

 

Below is another colorful quilt top Sue made.

 

 

 

 

Wanda made this color study on black.  She dyed the colored fabric.

 

 

Using scraps, Wanda also made a smaller version.

 

 

 

Wanda made a portrait of her daughters.  Instead of binding the quilt is finished with facings.

 

 

 

 

Alice made 4 stitch stacking purses. They have zippers and are very colorful.

 

 

 

 

Julie T. made this large "fussy-cut" floral stars quilt.

February Show and Tell and Sharpee Ink Demo

Joyce started our Show and Tell with a pillow top she made for her daughter-in-law. 

The flower petals are hand appliqued on the gray linen.

Mary shared a snowman wall quilt, made for the back entry.

 

 

 

Mary also made a St. Pat's Sun Bonnet Sue for her front door.

 

 

 

Barbara used this photo as her inspiration for a baby quilt.

 

 

 The baby's room is going to be green with a nature theme.  This is one of Barbara's blocks using birch fabric for the strips.

 

 

The group offered advice as to how to lay out the blocks for the quilt.

Jane shared a DEAR JANE quilt she has been working on for almost 20 years.

Jane used English Paper Piecing to make the quilt by hand.  Below are some back side photos, some of the papers have not been removed yet.

 

 

 

 

Tam hand appliqued this red/green wall hanging.

Tam also made this 30's Sampler quilt with blocks someone gave her.

 

 

Closer view....Tam had to make all the blocks the same size....note top left...she had to add a small border on the block.

 

 

Tam quilted all the blocks using the same pattern for each block using her regular sewing machine. 

 

 

 

 

 

Jane demonstrated how to use Sharpie markers and rubbing alcohol

to make designs on different kinds of fabric.

 

Below is a wall quilt Jane made using this technique.

 

 

 

 

Jane started out using silk, testing how the markers would compare to the soda ash scarves

we did last month.

 

 

 

Jane suggested using rubbing alcohol with a high concentration.  

 

Jane used a spray bottle with alcohol on the first example.

 

She also used an eye dropper with alcohol.

 

This example was on cotton.

 

 

This sample was on a cotton knit.

 

 

 

Other members also tried their hand at dyeing the fabric.
