July Ugly Fabric Challenge

In May, we exchanged ugly fabrics.  Our task was to make something using the fabric we received for July's project.

Julie T.  had this fabric to work with.

 

 

This is Julie's "Owl Trio".

 

 

 

 

This was Mary's fabric, front and back.

 

 

Below is Mary's "Butterfly" door quilt with rhinestones.

 

 

   

 

Linda received this fabric.

 

 

Linda used thread to draw her project, "It's Raining Cats".

 

 

 

 

This is Alice's challenge fabric.

 

 

 

Alice used the fabric in  two projects.  She made a Dresden plate bib and hat for her doll.

 

 

 

Alice also made a Dresden plate wall hanging with a 3D flower.

 

 

 

This is Wanda's fabric.

 

 

 

Wanda used the fabric to make this green medallion wall hanging.

 

 

 

 

Pat received this bright fabric.

 

 

 

Pat made a flower basket block using the fabric.

 

 

 

 

This is Sue's turkey fabric.

 

 

 

Sue used the fabric in the basket of this "Sunflower"  wall hanging.

 

 

 

Karen had to use this colorful fabric.

 

 

Karen made a "Hot Air Balloon"  wall hanging.

 

 

 

Tam had this fabric to work with.

Tam made a "Yellow Water Bird"  wall hanging.

 

 

 

This is Jane's ugly fabric.

 

 

 

Jane bleached the fabric, the dyed it in tea and ended up using the back side.

 

 

Jane used an old family photo as part of her project.

 

 

 

She printed the photo and other meaningful pictures on extra large tea bags.

 

 

 

 

Below is Jane's finished "Elizabeth Shreve Chambers" Memory quilt.

 

 

 

Members also shared other projects they have been working on.

 

Julie T.   made this Owl quilt from a block exchange,

each block represents one of the friends in the exchange.

 

 

 

 

Barbara made an on point, stars and triangles quilt top, using a stack and slash technique. 

 

Barbara is going to paint a barn quilt block.  She asked the group for

some suggestions on color choices to represent three seasons.

 

 

 

 

 

Wanda showed the group a thread painting project using the

marker/alcohol painting method Jane taught us a few months ago.

 

 

Wanda completed this Row by Row wall hanging.

 

 

 

Wanda also shared a wool pennies quilt she completed.

Joyce S. made this quilt using a layer cake.

 

 

 

Tam completed a green and magenta Woodpile Quilt.

 

 

You can see Tam's quilting on the back.

 

 

June Show and Tell

There was no theme this month, but we had some interesting sharing at Show and Tell.

Barbara shared her ugly fabric project in progress.  Barbara's Bachelor Buttons are 3D.   

Her ugly fabric is in the tiny flowers.

Linda also  shared a project in progress.  Linda painted the lily on trigger fabric, then cut it out and placed it on the background.  She has been thread painting the lily.

 

 

Dee showed the group the process she used to do ice dyeing. 

She soaked the fabric in this pool product.

 

 

 Dee used the screen and tub to catch the water as the ice melted.

Joyce S. shared a rescued embroidery piece, she is making into a mini quilt.

 

 

 

Joyce also shared a traditional quilt she made using this Minnesota fabric.

 

 

 

 

Sue made this traditional quilt.  Both the front and back are brightly colored.

 

 

May Flowers

The No Rules Fiber Artists' theme for May was flowers.

 

Nancy brought in her completed flower pin which was started at April's meeting.

 

 

 

Pat made a bright triangle quilt.

 

 

  The quilt has a different look when it is turned.

 

 

 

Dee showed a flower pounding project she is making.  She pounded pansies onto her fabric and later embellished the project with beads in place of quilting.

 

 

 

 

Wanda shared a kitty silhouette with a flowered border.  Wanda hand dyed the background fabric.

 

 

 

Karen shared a green and brown throw she completed.

 

 

Karen also made a counted cross stitch saying for a wedding present.

 

 

For the May challenge, Karen made this pansy block.

Karen also used pansies in this small Alabama quilt.

 

 

 

Julie D. made this owl using Inktense pencils.

 

 

 

 

Mary shared two Bunny quilts which had flowers.

 

 

Mary also shared a landscape quilt.

 

 

 

 

Joyce J. made this nine block floral applique quilt.

 

 

 

 

Linda made a Disappearing Pin Wheel quilt.

 

 

 

 

Jane used a vintage flour sack for the background in her Flower/Flour Themed quilt.  She added nasturtiums, along with the bread and jelly.

 

 

 

 

 

Alice was inspired by Freda Anderson when she made her daffodil quilt.

 

 

Alice made this large bag and accessories using vinyl she machine embroidered.

  

 

 

 

Nancy used melted crayons to make this tulip quilt.

 

 

 

Nancy also is working on a red and blue flower quilt.

 

 

 

 

Julie T.  made this blue and tan purse.
